NSW police arrest five teens over stolen vehicle, property theft and police pursuit at Coffs Harbour

Five teenagers have been arrested following investigations into vehicle theft and break-ins, and a police pursuit across the state’s north yesterday.

Police will allege a Holden Astra was stolen from an address in Queensland on Saturday 24 August 2019. It travelled down to NSW where it was involved in a number of fraud and property theft offences before it crashed into a bollard at Saltwater Park on Harbour Drive, Coffs Harbour.

It’s alleged the five occupants of the Astra got out of the car and broke into a number of parked vehicles in the jetty area before stealing a Nissan Patrol.

Witnesses contacted police and officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District arrived at the jetty about 5am (Tuesday 27 August 2019) where they arrested three of the teens aged 14, 15 and 16.

About 6.45am police were patrolling the vicinity of Gordon Street, Coffs Harbour when they were flagged down by a man who told police his vehicle had been stolen. While speaking with police his vehicle travelled past.

Officers pursued the vehicle before it crashed on Earl Street, Coffs Harbour, and after a short foot pursuit police arrested a 16-year-old boy.

A short time later police arrested a 17-year-old boy in Castle Street, Coffs Harbour, who was allegedly the fifth occupant of the stolen Astra.

All teens were taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station where the 16-year-old boy was released into the care of his parents and will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.

The 14-year-old girl and two boys aged 15 and 17, were charged with numerous offences including receiving stolen property and having custody of a knife in a public place. They were refused bail to appear before a children’s court in Coffs Harbour today (Wednesday 28 August 2019).

The 16-year-old boy was charged with numerous offences including Skye’s Law (Police Pursuit). He was refused bail and will also appear in a children’s court at Coffs Harbour today.
