NSW police arrest man after threatening a woman with a knife

Police have charged a man after he allegedly threatened a woman with a knife while attempting to take her car at Bondi Junction last night.

About 8.30pm (Friday 21 February 2020), a 21-year-old woman was walking towards her car in an underground carpark when she was approached from behind by a man.

It is alleged he placed his hand around her throat before producing a knife and demanding she hand over her car keys.

A struggle ensued between the two and it is further alleged the man ran from the carpark after pulling the woman’s bag from her shoulder.

Later that evening, officers attached to the Police Transport Unit spoke to a man at Liverpool Railway Station regarding transport offences. Police searched his bag and allegedly located a knife.

The 39-year-old man was arrested and taken to Liverpool Police Station where he was interviewed.

He was charged with armed robbery, armed with intent, convicted offender armed with intent to commit indictable offence, custody of a knife, and breach of bail.

The man was refused bail and appeared in Central Local Court today (Saturday 22 February 2020) where he was further refused bail and remanded in custody.

He will appear in Central Local Court on Friday 28 February 2020.
