NSW police arrest teens in police remind community to secure vehicles

Police are reminding the public to secure their vehicles, after two teenagers were arrested this morning at Bateau Bay.

About 2.15am (Saturday 20 July 2019), police were called to Belford Road, after reports of cars being broken into.

It’s believed two youths were trying to open vehicles in the street, allegedly taking cash and items from several.

Officers from Tuggerah Lakes Police District attended and arrested the pair – both aged 16 – after a short foot pursuit.

They were taken to The Entrance Police Station, and released into the care of their parents pending further inquiries.

This incident comes as a timely reminder for residents to secure vehicles to prevent opportunistic thieves who target vehicles where doors and windows are left unsecured, or where valuable items are left in plain sight.

Do not leave wallets, phones, bags, or valuable items in vehicles for extended periods of time.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
