NSW police arrest two men over armed robbery and a third man for domestic matters at Armidale

Three men were arrested in Armidale yesterday in relation to armed robbery and domestic offences.

On Monday 22 July 2019, two men allegedly armed with a baseball bat and fishing knife assaulted and robbed the occupants of a home in Edward Street, Armidale. The occupants sustained minor injuries during the incident, with one requiring treatment in hospital.

Following investigations, about 8am on Thursday (15 August 2019), officers from Armidale Detectives and Target Action Group attended a second home on Edward Street to arrest two men in relation to the armed robbery.

A violent struggle between police and one of the men ensued, while the second man fled the scene.

Police were able to arrest a 23-year-old man involved in the struggle and he was taken to Armidale Police Station.

About 8.30am on the same morning, Armidale Detectives and Target Action Group attended McIntosh Crescent in Armidale to locate the second man in relation to the armed robbery.

The man was not located; however, officers located a third man found to be in breach of a current Apprehended Violence Order. He was arrested and taken to Armidale Police Station.

A short time later, at 12.15pm, officers returned to the address on McIntosh Crescent where police located the second man and arrested him without incident.

The 21-year-old was charged with one count of robbery whilst armed with offensive weapon

The 23-year-old man was charged with one count of robbery whilst armed with offensive weapon and one count of resisting police.

The third man, also aged 21, was charged with one count of contravene Apprehended Violence Order.

All three men were refused bail and appeared in Armidale Local Court on Thursday 15 August 2019.

After appearing in court, the 23-year-old male was conveyed to Armidale Hospital at 7.30pm the same day, to receive medical attention for a minor medical issue.

Once cleared by the treating doctor, and upon being escorted back to the police vehicle, the 23-year-old ran from the location.

Following a search of the surrounding areas the man was located in the Dumaresq Creek.

He was arrested and conveyed to Armidale Police Station where he was charged with a further offence of escape lawful custody.

He is due to appear in Armidale Local Court today (Friday 16 August 2019).
