NSW police arrest two over distraction-style robberies

A boy has been charged and another arrested in relation to an investigation into a series of distraction-style robberies in Sydney’s south-west.

Just after 3pm on Friday 12 April 2019, a group of teenagers entered a telecommunications store at Casula and were looking at mobile phones and watches on display.

A short time later, the teens were asked to leave the store by staff members after multiple members of the group began pulling on items, which were attached to the display table by a security cable.

The group initially ignored the direction but were eventually ushered from the store.

Police have been told one male teenager stole a watch and another male teenager attempted to steal a mobile phone but dropped it as he left.

CCTV depicts the second teenager knocking over an 81-year-old woman as he runs from the shopping centre.

The woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital for treatment to a fractured pelvis.

Officers from Liverpool Police Area Command attended the location and commenced an investigation.

CCTV of the incident was released to the public.

A further robbery occurred on Monday 22 April 2019, where a 26-year-old man was robbed by a male outside Auburn Railway Station.

On Thursday 2 May 2019, a further incident occurred inside an electronic store at a shopping centre on McFarlane Street, Merrylands, where three laptops were stolen.

Following inquiries, about 7am yesterday (Thursday 9 May 2019), police from Liverpool, Auburn and Cumberland Police Area Commands executed a search warrant at an address on O’Brien Street, Mount Druitt.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested at the address and taken to Riverstone Police Station where he was charged with robbery in company (x2), recklessly cause grievous bodily harm, resist arrest, and larceny, in relation to these three separate incidents.

He was refused bail and appeared at Parramatta Children’s Court yesterday (Thursday 9 May 2019), where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court next Thursday (16 May 2019).

About 6am today (Friday 10 May 2019), investigators executed a further search warrant at an address on The Esplanade, Guildford.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested at the address and taken to Granville Police Station where he is assisting with inquiries.
