NSW police charge driver after child hit by car at Parramatta

A driver has been charged after a child was hit by a car at Parramatta earlier this week.

About 3.10pm (Wednesday 21 October 2020), emergency services were called to the corner of Phillip Street and Kattar Lane, Parramatta, after reports a child had been hit by a car.

Police will allege an eight-year-old boy was walking on the footpath with his mother when a Holden Cruz allegedly mounted the curb, hit two signs, before hitting the boy.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a serious condition.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit attended and commenced an investigation.

The driver, a 35-year-old man, was not injured and returned a negative breath test at the scene. He was arrested and taken to Westmead Hospital for mandatory testing, before being taken to Parramatta Police Station where he was served a Court Attendance Notice for grievous bodily harm by negligent act -vehicle, cause bodily harm by misconduct in charge of motor vehicle, negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm), and drive on path.

The man, from The Ponds, is due to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Friday 4 December 2020.
