NSW police charge five teens after pursuit

Five teenagers have been charged following a pursuit with a stolen Land Rover yesterday.

Just before 1am (Monday 14 June 2021), Traffic and Highway Patrol officers were conducting speed enforcement duties on the M2 Motorway at Baulkham Hills, when a Land Rover Discovery was detected in excess of the sign posted speed limit.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle shortly after; however, it failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated, travelling along the M2 before taking the Lane Cove Road exit.

The pursuit continued through North Ryde, Lane Cove and Gordon, before road spikes were successfully deployed on Mona Vale Road, St Ives, with the Land Rover eventually coming to a stop on Palm St, before the occupants fled.

Five teenagers – two boys, aged 17 and 16, and three boys, aged 15 – were arrested after a short foot pursuit. They were all taken to Hornsby Police Station.

Checks revealed the Land Rover was allegedly stolen following a break-in at a Northbridge home on Friday (11 June 2021).

The driver, aged 17, was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, never licensed person drive vehicle on road, take & drive conveyance without consent of owner, and breach of bail.

The 16-year-old passenger was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner and breach of bail.

They were both refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Tuesday 15 June 2021).

The three passengers, aged 15, were charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

They were granted conditional bail to appear at a children’s court, one on Tuesday 29 June 2021 and the two others on Thursday 8 July 2021.
