NSW police charge man after armed robbery at Lake Illawarra

A man has been charged after an alleged armed robbery in Lake Illawarra overnight.

About 7.50pm (Friday 29 February 2020), a man allegedly armed with a knife entered a service station on Windang Road, Windang, and threatened an employee.

The man allegedly took cash from the till and cigarettes before fleeing the store in a black Toyota Corolla waiting outside.

Shortly after, officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District commenced a search for the vehicle, with assistance from Wollongong Police District and Traffic and Highway Patrol.

The Toyota was stopped on Springhill Road, Cringila, with two men and a woman arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station.

A 26-year-old man was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon, and drive motor vehicle while licence suspended.

The man appeared in Wollongong Local Court today (Saturday 29 February 2020), where he was refused bail, to reappear in the same court on Monday 2 March 2020.

The other man and woman were released, and inquiries continue.
