NSW police charge man after double fatal near NSW-Victorian border

A man has been charged after a double fatal crash near the NSW-Victorian border in the state’s far west last month.

Emergency services were called to Silver City Highway, 13km south east of Dareton, about 3.15am on Thursday 14 April 2022, after a passing motorist saw a sedan crashed off the roadway.

Emergency services attended and located the bodies of two 15-year-old boys near the vehicle, which had rolled multiple times.

Officers attached to Barrier Police District established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Following enquiries, about 10.10am today (Monday 16 May 2022), officers arrested an 18-year-old man at a correctional facility.

He was charged with two counts of dangerous driving occ death-drive manner dangerous, two counts of negligent driving (occasioning death), two counts of fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death, never licensed person drive vehicle on road and receive property stolen outside NSW.

The man was refused bail to appear at Broken Hill Local Court today (16 May 2022).
