NSW police charge man after hit and run at Doonside

A man has been charged following a hit and run in Sydney’s west over the weekend.

About 3pm (Saturday 22 February 2020), emergency services were called to Birdwood Avenue, Doonside, following reports a man had been struck by a car.

On arrival, officers from Blacktown Police Area Command located a 41-year-old man suffering injuries to his head, legs, back and ribs.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

A crime scene was established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident was commenced.

Following enquiries, police allege a man, driving a blue Holden Commodore, deliberately drove at the pedestrian following a verbal argument earlier in the day. After the man was knocked to the ground, the driver left the scene before witnesses contacted police.

Just after 10.30pm yesterday (Monday 24 February 2020), the male driver, aged 34, presented himself to Blacktown Police Station.

He was arrested and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, cause bodily harm by misconduct in charge of a motor vehicle, drive vehicle under influence of drugs, fail to stop and assist after impact cause injury, and not give particulars to injured person

He was refused bail and is due to appear before Blacktown Local Court today (Tuesday 25 February 2020).
