A man has been charged after allegedly pretending to be a rideshare driver in the Wollongong area this week.
About 2.40am on Saturday 23 October 2021, it will be alleged a man approached a woman in the vicinity of a licensed premises, claiming his phone app was off-line.
It is further alleged the man has then performed an indecent act upon the female who entered the vehicle.
Officers from Wollongong Police District were notified and commenced an investigation into the man allegedly purporting to be a ride share driver.
Following extensive inquiries, a 34-year-old man was stopped in a Honda Accord on Robinson Street, Wollongong, about 9pm yesterday (Monday 25 October 2021), with a female passenger in the front seat.
The man was arrested at the scene and taken to Wollongong Police Station, where he was charged with sexually touch another person without consent, and driver never licensed.
The Wollongong man was granted conditional bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 9 November 2021.
Members of the public are reminded to ensure they check the details of the vehicle which has been booked against the phone app.
