The Cook Labor Government is reviewing the State’s procurement framework to create more local jobs, strengthen local industry and support its Made in WA plan.
Western Australia’s economic success is built on strong private sector investment, with government procurement playing an important role in that success through billions of dollars of annual contracts that deliver critical energy, water or transport infrastructure while supporting local businesses and jobs.
A statutory review of the Procurement Act 2020 will examine how government’s purchasing power can deliver the government’s Made in WA plan by creating more opportunities for local businesses, deliver local jobs and maximise the economic benefits of taxpayer spending.
This includes creating opportunities in areas such as advanced manufacturing while continuing to deliver value for taxpayers.
The review will also seek feedback on approach to market procurement thresholds under the Western Australian Procurement Rules.
