NSW police charge man after robbing child

A man will face court today charged after allegedly robbing a child in Albion Park last week.

Just before 5pm on Tuesday 17 March 2020, a nine-year-old boy found a small amount of cash laying on the ground near the Albion Park Library.

A short time later, the boy attended a skate park on Tongarra Road with his older sister. The boy was chased by a man, who allegedly threw the boy to the ground before taking the cash and fleeing on a bicycle.

The boy did not sustain any injuries as a result of the altercation.

The matter was reported to Lake Illawarra Police District and an investigation commenced.

Following extensive inquiries, police arrested a 19-year-old man about 7.45pm on Friday (19 March 2020).

He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with aggravated robbery.

He was refused bail and appeared at Wollongong Local Court on Saturday (21 March 2020), where he was bailed to appear at the same court today (Wednesday 25 March 2020).
