NSW police charge man after siege at Albury

A man has been charged following a siege in the state’s Murray River region yesterday.

About 9.45pm (Tuesday 22 March 2022), police were called to a home on Mate Street, North Albury, following reports a vehicle was on fire.

Upon arrival, officers attached to Murray River Police District located a man inside the home.

It will be alleged the man refused to leave the premises and threatened to set the house alight.

Officers established a perimeter, while Fire and Rescue NSW officers extinguished the car fire.

A short time later, the man left the house allegedly armed with several knives and walked towards police.

Officers attempted to arrest the man, when he returned inside the house before re-approaching police unarmed.

The 29-year-old was arrested and taken to Albury Police Station, where he was charged with seven offences:

  • Threaten injury to property with intent to prevent lawful detention;
  • Destroy or damage property;
  • Intimidate police officer in execution of duty (x4); and,
  • Use etc offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention etc.

The North Albury man was refused bail to appear at Albury Local Court today (Wednesday 23 March 2022).
