NSW police charge man over allegations of child sexual abuse at Shoalhaven

A man will face court today charged following an investigation into allegations he sexually abused a child on the NSW south coast.

On Sunday 19 July 2020, a 13-year-old girl from the Shoalhaven area was reported missing before being located a short time later by officers attached to South Coast Police District.

Following initial inquiries, the matter was referred to detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad.

As a result of investigations, detectives attended a home in St Georges Basin and arrested a 55-year-old man about 4.20pm yesterday (Monday 20 July 2020).

He was taken to Nowra Police Station and charged with two counts of have sexual intercourse with child (aged between 10-14) and two counts of intentionally sexually touch child (aged between 10-14).

Police will allege in court that the man sexually abused the girl on multiple occasions while she was in his care.

The man was bail refused to appear at Nowra Local Court today (Tuesday 21 July 2020).

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
