A man has been charged with an outstanding warrant for allegedly breaching an apprehended violence order (AVO), following a pursuit in the Illawarra last night.
About 1pm Wednesday (30 July 2019), officers from Lake Illawarra and Wollongong Police District attended a unit on the Princes Highway, Figtree, following reports of an AVO breach.
A barricade incident took place until about 4.30pm, when officers entered the unit. No one was located inside, and no arrests were made.
Following further inquiries, about 8.30pm last night (Wednesday 31 July 2019), officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attempted to stop a Subaru WRX on King Street, near Northcliffe Drive, Warrawong.
The driver failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit continued along King Street and at the intersection of Lake Avenue and Five Islands Road, Cringila, road spikes were successfully deployed by a Southern Region Traffic and Highway Patrol officer.
The driver – a 28-year-old man and New Zealand National – was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerous manner (Skye’s Law), drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, three counts of contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (domestic) and breach of bail.
He was refused bail and appeared before Wollongong Local Court today (Thursday 1 August 2019), where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court on Tuesday 6 August 2019.
