NSW police charge man over firearm importation

A man has been charged following an investigation into the alleged importation of firearms in Sydney’s south.

On Wednesday 6 May 2020, Australian Border Force (ABF) officers inspected two packages, that had arrived from Spain.

The packages were X-rayed, and two pistols used to fire blanks were found inside and seized.

The matter was referred to the NSW Police Force and detectives from Auburn Police Area Command commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, a 38-year-old man was arrested outside a parcel facility in Botany about 11am today (Tuesday 19 May 2020).

He was taken to Mascot Police Station and charged with two counts of intentionally import prohibited tier two goods.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Central Local Court today, where he was granted conditional bail to reappear at Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday 2 June 2020.
