NSW police charge man over multiple sexual touching incidents

Detectives have charged a man following an investigation into the alleged sexual touching and intimidation of seven women and two children in Sydney’s Inner West.

Officers from Leichhardt and Burwood police area commands – assisted by detectives from the State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad – commenced inquiries following reports seven woman – aged between 20 and 42 – and two children – aged four months and two years – had been sexually touched.

About 12.15pm on Wednesday (26 October 2022), police will allege two women – both aged 22 – were approached by a man in Drummoyne before he sexually touched one of the women.

He allegedly continued to make inappropriate comments to the woman before leaving.

About 1.30pm, a 20-year-old woman was approached by a man in a park on Henley Marine Drive at Drummoyne. He allegedly followed her through the park but left when confronted by one of her family members.

Officers from Burwood Police Area Command were alerted and commenced inquiries.

About 3pm, a 33-year-old woman was approached by a man outside a day-care centre in Leichhardt.

Police will allege in court the man allegedly made inappropriate remarks to her before following her in his vehicle through multiple streets. The woman reported the incident to Ashfield Police Station.

About 4.30pm, a man allegedly sexually touched a baby who was in a pram at a park in Leichhardt and made inappropriate comments to the baby’s mother before leaving.

Ten minutes later, a 42-year-old woman and child was approached outside a day care centre in Lilyfield. The man has allegedly touched the child before the woman pushed him away.

Following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 38-year-old man in Silverwater about 10am yesterday (Thursday 27 October 2022).

He was taken to Auburn Police Station and charged with 11 offences, including, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm (four counts), sexually touch another person without consent (two counts), common assault (two counts), intentionally sexually touch child under 10 years (two counts), and contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO.

He was refused bail to appear before Burwood Local Court today (Friday 28 October 2022).
