NSW police charge man over stabbing of French Bulldogs

A man has been charged with a string of offences after allegedly breaking into a home and stabbing two French Bulldogs last month.

Police will allege in court that, about 5.30pm on Saturday 19 September 2020, a woman was in the loungeroom of her Hartlepool Road, Edmondson Park home when a man entered the premises.

After a brief conversation, the man – who is known to the occupant – walked outside to the backyard where he found two dogs. He allegedly removed a knife from his pocket and stabbed both dogs before leaving the premises.

Police were called and officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command attended the home and commenced an investigation.

On Sunday 27 September 2020, a 31-year-old man was arrested at a home on Dunlop Street, Roselands.

He was taken to Bankstown Hospital where he was admitted for a mental health assessment.

After allegedly assaulting two security guards, and a nurse at the hospital, he was transferred to Liverpool Hospital for treatment.

About 11.30am yesterday (Friday 2 October 2020), he was released from hospital into the custody of police.

He was taken to Liverpool Police Station where he was charged with the following offences:

  • Aggravated enter dwelling with intent, knowing people there
  • Torture, beat & seriously injure animal (x2)
  • Destroy or damage property
  • Use carriage service to menace/harass/offend and Stalk/Intimidate, intend fear of physical harm
  • Common Assault (x2)
  • Assault occasioning Actual Bodily Harm
  • Armed with intent to commit indictable offence, affray and assault occasioning actual bodily harm (these charges relate to an incident at a restaurant in Sussex Street, Surry Hills on Sunday 20 October 2019).

He was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 3 October 2020).

The French Bulldogs are recovering from their injuries and remain in a veterinary hospital under care.
