NSW police charge man with attempted murder, drugs and firearm offences at Wagga Wagga

A man will face court today charged with attempted murder, along with drug and firearm offences following an investigation into the supply of prohibited drugs in the state’s south.

In July 2020, officers from the Wagga Wagga Regional Enforcement Squad established Strike Force Belvidere to investigate the supply of prohibited drugs in the Riverina area.

Following inquiries, strike force officers stopped a vehicle on Lockhart – the Rock Road, The Rock, south of Wagga Wagga, about 10.30am yesterday (Thursday 10 September 2020), and arrested the driver, a 51-year-old man.

Police conducted a search of a property on Lockhart – the Rock Road, and allegedly locating two rifles, a pistol, ammunition, cannabis and a stolen motor vehicle.

A search warrant was executed at a Mount Austin home with police allegedly locating prohibited weapons, a manufactured firearm silencer and a stolen laptop.

The items were seized and will undergo forensic examination.

The man was taken to Wagga Wagga Police station and charged with 19 offences, including

* Nine counts of supply prohibited drug – small quantity

* Supply prohibited drug on an ongoing basis

* Shoot at with intent to murder

* Stalk/intimidate with intent to cause fear or physical harm

* Common assault (domestic)

* Possess prohibited drug

* Possess unauthorised prohibited firearm

* Possess unauthorised firearm

* Knowingly facilitate organised car re-birthing

* Receiving stolen property

* Possess unregistered firearm – prohibited firearm

Police will allege in court that the man pointed a shortened rifle at a woman, known to him, and attempted to discharge the weapon during a domestic related incident at the Mount Austin home yesterday (Thursday 10 September 2020).

He was refused bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Friday 11 September 2020).
