Labor is pulling out all the stops to get fans to the MCG for Australia’s first-ever NFL game.
Minister for Public Transport Vicki Ward today announced extra train and tram services to make it easier for thousands of fans to get to and from the big game.
The Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers will face off on Friday, 11 September in front of a packed MCG crowd, with tens of millions watching on around the world.
Fans from more than 35 countries have bought tickets to the sold-out game, with almost 50 per cent of spectators expected to be from interstate or overseas.
Fans are encouraged to take advantage of the Friday morning extra services, with trains and trams arriving at the MCG every few minutes ahead of the 10:35am kick-off.
Labor’s half-price fares will make it cheaper for fans to get to and from the game.
Metro will run trains throughout Thursday night and into Friday morning, helping workers and fans get to the MCG.
Buses will also run between the city and the MCG between 12:15am and 5:00am on Friday morning.
Additional train services, including on V/Line, will run in the early afternoon to help fans get home after the game.
Passengers on the Werribee, Laverton and Williamstown lines can also travel directly to Richmond Station by taking a Sandringham-bound train.
The extra services will help more fans get into the city to enjoy the free NFL action taking over Melbourne during game week.
That includes Melbourne End Zone at Fed Square, where fans can watch live NFL games on the Big Screen and enjoy free entertainment and activations, and the NFL Kickoff Festival at Melbourne Park.
