NSW police charge man with cultivation offences; $50,000 worth of cannabis seized at Lake Illawarra

A man has been charged with cultivation offences after a hydroponic setup was discovered in the state’s Illawarra.

Last month, officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District’s Proactive Crime Team commenced an investigation into the supply of cannabis in the Illawarra region.

Following inquiries, officers executed a search warrant at a home on Rose Avenue, Albion Park Rail about 9am yesterday (Tuesday 19 July 2022).

Whilst inside the home, police uncovered a sophisticated hydroponic set up in a shed, as well as several prohibited plants and 2.3kg cannabis bud packaged in sealed bags. The estimated potential street value of the drugs is $52,000.

The occupant, a 52-year-old man, attended the home soon after, where he was placed under arrest.

He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and charged with enhanced indoor cultivation for commercial purpose, cultivate cannabis, and possess prohibited drug.

The Albion Park Rail man was granted conditional bail to appear in Albion Park Local Court on Monday 5 September 2022.
