NSW police charge man with grooming offences at Wollongong

A man will face court today following an investigation into alleged child-grooming offences in the Illawarra.

Acting on information, detectives from Wollongong Police District executed a search warrant at a home in West Wollongong earlier this week (Monday 27 January 2021), seizing electronic devices for forensic examination.

A 25-year-old man was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station, where he was charged with seven counts of use carriage service to menace/harass/offend and two counts of use carriage service to send indecent material to person less than 16.

Police will allege the man was using social media platforms to groom children aged between 12 and 17.

The man was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Wednesday 27 January 2021).
