A man has been charged with high-range drink-driving after being stopped during a traffic enforcement operation in the Illawarra at the weekend.
Between Friday (18 June 2021) and Saturday (19 June 2021), officers from Illawarra Traffic and Highway Patrol – along with officers attached to Lake Illawarra and Wollongong Police Districts – conducted Operation Fume.
During the operation, a Subaru Liberty was pulled over just before 10pm on Saturday, on Smith Street, Wollongong.
Police will allege the 23-year-old driver tested positive to a roadside breath test.
He was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station, where he allegedly returned a breath analysis reading of 0.172.
His license was immediately suspended, and he was issued a Court Attendance Notice for drive with high range PCA.
The Towradgi man will face Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 7 July 2021.
Operation Fume is a high-visibility road policing operation targeting criminal, alcohol and anti-social related behaviour and road related trauma.
Similar operations are expected to continue in the future.
