NSW police charge man with murder at Lake Illawarra

A man has been charged following an investigation into the suspected murder of a man in the Illawarra last year.

About 9.30pm on Monday 23 August 2021, emergency services were called to Thomas Street, Lake Illawarra, following reports the body of a man had been found inside a home.

The man has since been formally identified as 31-year-old Matthew Davis.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District established Strike Force Sienna to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.

Following extensive inquiries, about 7am yesterday (Wednesday 18 May 2022), strike force investigators executed a search warrant at a home on Belfast Avenue, Warilla.

Police seized clothing and notepads. These items will undergo forensic examination.

A 65-year-old man was arrested and was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he was charged with murder.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Thursday 19 May 2022).

Investigations are continuing.
