NSW police charge men after armed robbery

Two men will appear in court today charged following an armed robbery in Sydney’s west yesterday.

About 2.10pm (Thursday 26 January 2023), emergency services were called to a shopping centre on Town Terrace at Glenmore Park, after reports of an armed robbery.

Police were told that two men entered a tobacconist and allegedly threatened the employee with a firearm, before stealing several packets of cigarettes and cash.

A 56-year-old woman nearby noticed the men’s vehicle parked outside and removed the keys from the ignition.

Several witnesses intervened and were able to hold down the men at the scene until police arrived.

The men, aged 27 and 30, were arrested by officers and taken to hospital under police guard for treatment of minor injuries.

Officers from Nepean Police Area Command established a crime scene and seized a firearm for further examination.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident commenced.

Upon release from hospital, the men were taken to Penrith Police Station, where they were both charged with in company rob while armed with dangerous weapon.

They were refused bail to appear before Penrith Local Court today (Friday 27 January 2023).
