NSW police charge teens after pursuit at Tamworth

Two teenage boys have been charged following two pursuits in Tamworth earlier yesterday.

About 11.45am (Wednesday 16 March 2022), officers attached to Oxley Police District were patrolling the Gunnedah area and attempted to stop a white Kia on the Kamilaroi Highway.

The Kia failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated, before being terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

About 12.15pm (Wednesday 16 March 2022), a second pursuit was initiated in West Tamworth before it was terminated due to safety concerns. The Kia came to a stop at Matheson Street a short time later.

The three male occupants attempted to flee on foot before being arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station.

Following inquiries, a 17-year-old boy was charged with carried in conveyance and possess prohibited drug.

He was released on conditional bail and will appear before a children’s court on Tuesday 5 April 2022.

A 15-year-old boy was charged with drive conveyance taken without consent of the owner, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, class A motor vehicle exceed speed >45km/h and driver never licensed

He was refused bail and will appear before a children’s court today (Thursday 17 March 2022).

A second 15-year-old boy will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
