NSW police charge three after ‘ice’ found cooking in clandestine laboratory

Organised Crime Squad detectives have charged two men and a woman after a sophisticated clan lab manufacturing methylamphetamine was uncovered in a south western Sydney granny flat.

In November last year, the detectives from the Organised Crime Squad established Strike Force Kincraig to investigate the large-scale supply of prohibited drugs across Sydney.

Initial inquiries resulted in detectives expanding the investigation to include the manufacture of methylamphetamine.

As part of inquiries, a 31-year-old man was arrested at Dover Heights on Wednesday 6 May 2020. He was charged with drug supply-related offences and appeared at Central Local Court on Thursday 7 May 2020. He is next due to reappear at Central Local Court on Thursday 27 August 2020.

Following further investigations, strike force detectives, assisted by South West Metropolitan Region Operations Support Group, executed a search warrant at a home at Kentlyn about 9.20am yesterday (Thursday 13 August 2020).

Upon entry to a granny flat at the rear of the property, police located a 54-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman inside a sophisticated clandestine laboratory, with the man allegedly in the process of manufacturing ice.

The pair were arrested, while another woman, aged 31, and an 11-month-old boy were escorted from the other side of the granny flat, which was separated by a gyprock wall. A child at risk report has since been submitted.

A crime scene was established, and the area was rendered safe by Fire and Rescue NSW before an examination commenced by the Drug and Firearms Squad’s Chemical Operations Unit.

Meanwhile, the man and woman were taken to Campbelltown Police Station.

While the forensic examination and subsequent dismantling of the lab is expected to take a number of days, police have already seized a large commercial quantity of ice, a significant amount of liquids, powders and items related to the manufacture of prohibited drugs.

Following further investigations, detectives attended Roberts Way, Claymore where they located a vehicle with significant damage including numerous bullet holes.

The vehicle was recovered and taken for forensic examination.

About 6.30pm, a 37-year-old man arrived at the Kentlyn property and following inquiries was subject to a search, where police seized $5000 cash and 100g of ephedrine.

He was arrested and taken to Campbelltown Police Station.

The 54-year-old Kentlyn man was charged with manufacture prohibited drug (large commercial quantity)-expose child and supply prohibited drug (large commercial quantity).

He was refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court later today (Friday 14 August 2020).

The 37-year-old Auburn man was charged with supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity), recklessly deal with the proceeds of crime and drive motor vehicle while licence suspended.

The 40-year-old Warwick Farm woman was charged with found on/entering/leaving drug premises.

Both were granted conditional bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on Monday 14 September 2020.

Investigations under Strike Force Kincraig are ongoing.
