Three people have been charged following three separate unauthorised protests in Sydney’s Inner West, South Sydney and Eastern Beaches yesterday.
About 7am (Friday 25 March 2022), emergency services were called to a freight rail line over a canal near Qantas Drive, Tempe, following reports a group had gathered at the location, including a woman who had suspended herself from a pole.
Officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command attended and with the assistance of Police Rescue removed the 25-year-old woman.
About 10.45am, emergency services were called to another freight rail line near the intersection of Meeks and Victoria Roads, Marrickville, following reports a separate group had gathered in front of a freight train, including a woman who climbed on top of a carriage.
The 62-year-old woman was removed by officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command, with the assistance of Police Rescue.
The rest of the group left the scene before police arrived.
Both women were arrested and taken to Mascot Police Station.
About 2.10pm the same day, emergency services were called to Port Botany following reports of a protestor suspending himself from machinery.
Following an operation by officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command, with assistance from Police Rescue, the man was arrested about 7.30pm and taken to Maroubra Police Station.
The younger woman was charged with endanger safety of person on railway, remain on inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse, refuse/fail to comply with direction and encourage the carrying on operation for commission of crime.
The older Wingham woman was charged with enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse, endanger safety of person on railway and cause obstruction to railway locomotive or rolling stock.
The man was charged with endanger person on railway, remain in a water-side restricted zone when not authorised, refuse to comply with direction, encourage the carrying on operation for commission of crime, and risk safety of another by climbing building / structure.
All three were refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 26 March 2022).
