NSW police charge three with assaulting police and resisting arrest at Raymond Terrace

Three men have been charged with assaulting police and resisting arrest at a Raymond Terrace pub yesterday.

About 6.45pm (Thursday 25 April 2019), officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District attended a licensed premises on William Street, after reports of a brawl; with police closing the venue and moving on patrons.

A short time later, a group of men returned to the front of the premises and police directed them to move on.

The men allegedly refused and became aggressive towards police, during which time a male senior constable was allegedly struck to the head with a glass bottle and punched several times in the head by a 19-year-old man.

Two other men, aged 22 and 24, attempted to free the younger man from police, before OC spray was deployed and all three were arrested and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station.

All three were charged with offences including fail to quit licensed premises, affray, hinder police in execution of duty, and resist arrest.

The 19-year-old man was also charged with assault police, and use weapon to avoid apprehension.

They were granted conditional bail to appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday 6 June 2019.

The senior constable received minor swelling around his head; however, did not require hospitalisation.
