NSW police charge two after malicious wounding at Nowra

Two men have been arrested following a disturbance outside a home in Nowra.

About 3am yesterday (Sunday 30 June) a 42-year-old man was assaulted outside his home by a group of men armed with an axe.

The man was heard shouting for help at the rear of his premises and was joined by his son, a 19-year-old man, who was armed with a tomahawk.

Following a wrestle, the 19-year-old man had his tomahawk taken from him and was assaulted by the group of men, suffering lacerations to his face and the back of his head.

The man retreated to a friend’s premises and requested ambulance assistance for his father.

The 42-year-old man was taken to Wollongong Hospital for surgery with multiple facial fractures and lacerations to the head and hand. The man is in a serious but stable condition.

Police attended the scene and arrested a 22-year-old man shortly after. The man was charged with affray and armed with intent. He has been refused bail and will appear before Nowra Local Court today (Monday 1 July).

About 5pm yesterday a 19-year-old man handed himself in to Nowra Police Station. The man was arrested and charged with malicious wounding. He has been refused bail and will appear before Nowra Local Court today (Monday 1 July).

Police inquiries are continuing.
