NSW police charge two teens after pursuit with stolen Range Rover in Sydney CBD

Two teenagers have been charged with a string of offences following a pursuit with a stolen Range Rover overnight.

Just after 12am (Sunday 13 June 2021), officers attached to Ryde Police Area Command were conducting proactive patrols at Cherrybrook, as part of Strike Force Coborro which was established by officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command Proactive Crime Team to investigate stolen motor vehicles and theft from motor vehicle offences across Sydney.

Officers observed a black Range Rover travelling on New Line Road, and after conducting checks of the vehicle, established it was stolen from outside a home on Dunlop Street, Epping, about 3.45am on Tuesday 8 June 2021.

Police initiated a pursuit after the vehicle allegedly failed to stop, however, it was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

PolAir monitored the vehicle as it travelled through several suburbs including Parramatta and Bankstown.

About 12.30am (Sunday 13 June 2021), officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command noticed the Range Rover driving on Elizabeth Street in the CBD.

The vehicle turned into St James Road and stopped, before the occupants fled on foot.

Following a short foot pursuit, three males – aged 16, 17 and 20 – were arrested and taken to Surry Hills Police Station.

The 16-year-old boy was charged with three counts of take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Children’s Court today.

The 17-year-old boy was charged with five counts of enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner, four counts of larceny, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, dishonestly obtain property by deception, be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, possess prohibited drug, and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Monday 5 July 2021.

Police will allege in court the offences occurred across Sydney since last month.

The 20-year-old man was released pending further inquiries.

A male constable sustained a minor hand injury during the arrest. He was taken to Sydney Hospital for assessment and has since been released.

Sutherland Shire detectives are continuing to conduct inquiries under Strike Force Coborro.
