NSW police investigate kidnapping at Wagga Wagga

Police are appealing for information after two men were allegedly kidnapped and assaulted in Wagga Wagga earlier this year.

About midnight on Sunday 4 October 2020, two men – aged 27 and 30 – were standing outside a home on Franklin Drive, Estella, when they were approached by two men and woman travelling in a white Suzuki Swift.

It’s alleged the pair were detained and assaulted by the occupants of the vehicle and had personal items stolen, before being driven to a home on Phillip Avenue, Mount Austin.

The younger man escaped and fled on foot to a nearby property, while the older man was taken inside the house and assaulted.

A short time later, the older man left the home and attended Wagga Wagga Base Hospital for injuries sustained to his face.

The younger man sustained a swollen eye socket and a bite to the hand but did not require hospital treatment.

Officers from Riverina Police District were notified and commenced inquiries.

Local detectives established Strike Force Yarrawong to investigate the incident.

Following inquiries, a 24-year-old man was arrested at a home in Ashmont about 5.45pm on Monday 5 October 2020. He remains before the courts.

As inquiries continue, detectives would like to speak to a woman who may be able to assist them.

The woman is described as being of Caucasian appearance, of thin build, aged in her early 20s, with dark hair. She was last seen driving a white Suzuki Swift.

Anyone with information, or who may have witnessed any suspicious activity at the time of the incident, is urged to come forward.

Inquiries are continuing.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
