NSW police investigating after multiple pursuits at Oxley

An investigation is underway after multiple police pursuits with stolen vehicles in the state’s north-west overnight.

About 12.15am (Friday 8 April 2022), officers attached to Oxley Police District were patrolling McGregor Street, West Tamworth, when they attempted to stop a Toyota Prado and Holden Commodore travelling in convoy.

Both vehicles failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated, before it was terminated shortly after due to safety concerns.

Just after 2am, police were notified a Range River failed to pay for petrol at a service station on Marius Street, Tamworth before it joined the Toyota and Holden, travelling towards Gunnedah.

Further information was received about 2.45am, with the three vehicles travelling in convoy at high speed back towards Tamworth.

Police intercepted the three vehicles and attempted to stop them on the Oxley Highway, outside Tamworth.

The vehicles failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated with attempts to deploy road spikes, unsuccessful and the pursuit terminated.

Following extensive patrols, a further pursuit was initiated with the Range Rover, Holden along with a Jaguar, about 4.15am, travelling through West Tamworth, before being terminated due to safety concerns.

The Holden and Jaguar were later found abandoned on Larool Street, South Tamworth. They have been seized for forensic examination.

Officers patrolling the West Tamworth area, came across a house fire on Matheson Street. The blaze was extinguished; however, the unoccupied home was destroyed.

The stolen Toyota Prado was located nearby on Mateson Street and police are investigating if the incidents are linked.

The Range Rover was later found abandoned on Frederick Street, after being set alight.
