NSW police lay charges over fatal crash

A man has been charged following a fatal crash at Merrylands West earlier this month.

About 10.30pm on Monday 7 September 2020, emergency services were called to the intersection of the Cumberland Highway and Bruce Street, after a Subaru Forrester and a Nissan Skyline collided.

The Subaru driver, a 22-year-old woman, was treated by paramedics and taken to Westmead Hospital, where she died on Monday 14 September 2020.

The Nissan driver, a 32-year-old man, and his 32-year-old male passenger were both taken to Westmead Hospital suffering internal injuries.

Officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command attended, along with the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit who commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The 32-year-old man was discharged from hospital today (Wednesday 30 September), and attended Parramatta Police Station where he was arrested.

He was charged with aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death – speed more than 45 over limit, aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – more than 45 km/h over limit, dangerous driving occasioning death – drive speed dangerous, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive speed dangerous, organise, promote race between vehicle, negligent driving (occasioning death), and negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm).

The Guildford man appeared at Parramatta Local Court today where he was formally refused bail to appear at the same court on Friday (2 October 2020).
