Homicide Squad detectives have charged a man over his alleged involvement in the murder of another man in Sydney’s south west earlier this year.
Just before 4am on Saturday 14 May 2022, emergency services responded to reports of a shooting on Knox Street, Belmore.
Upon arrival, a man was located with gunshot wounds. He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, died at the scene.
He has since been formally identified as 23-year-old Rami Iskander.
The matter was initially investigated by detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and South West Metropolitan Region under Strike Force Batti.
The investigation subsequently formed part of ongoing inquiries by Taskforce Erebus into several fatal shootings and criminal activities by organised crime networks across Sydney.
Following inquiries, detectives, with assistance from Raptor Squad and the Public Order and Riot Squad, executed a search warrant at a home in Oatley from 8.30am today (Saturday 8 October 2022).
A 41-year-old man was arrested and taken to Kogarah Police Station.
A short time later, a second search warrant was executed at a home in Kyle Bay, where a 38-year-old woman was arrested and also taken to Kogarah Police Station.
During the searches, police seized more than $500,000 cash and items relevant to the investigation that will undergo further examination.
The man was charged with charged with accessory after the fact to murder, accessory before the fact to murder, participate criminal group contribute criminal group activity and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.
He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court tomorrow (Sunday 9 October 2022).
The woman was charged with knowingly deal with proceeds of crime; and participate in criminal group.
She was granted conditional bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on 1 November 2022.
