NSW police make firearm arrest

Sydney police have arrested a man who allegedly sped off from a vehicle stop and crashed into another car, leading to the discovery of an illegal firearm.

Just before 5pm yesterday (Monday 18 March), officers from the Fairfield City Police Area Command attempted to pull over a red Holden Commodore on the Hume Highway, Lansvale, for a Random Breath Test when the car accelerated away.

The vehicle struck another car nearby and the 23-year-old driver allegedly ran off only to be arrested by pursuing police.

It’s alleged when they searched the Commodore, officers discovered a fully-loaded, six-shot 22 calibre Smith and Wesson revolver and 25 rounds of ammunition in the glovebox.

The driver was taken to Fairfield Hospital due to suspected drug use and later, the Fairfield Police Station where he was charged with possession of the illegal firearm and ammunition, breach of a Firearms Prohibition Order and traffic offences.

He was refused Police bail and ordered to appear before the Fairfield Local Court today.
