NSW police officer assaulted, woman charged at Barham

A woman will face court today charged with assaulting a police officer in the state’s south.

About 6.15pm yesterday (Wednesday 6 November 2019), a senior constable attached to Murray River Police District responded to reports a woman was breaking into houses on Forest Street, Barham.

The female police officer attended the address and was allegedly hit in the head while attempting to detain the woman.

The officer was assisted by members of the public and arrested a 21-year-old woman.

The woman was taken to Barham Police Station where she was charged with break and enter, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, resist arrest and assault police occasioning actual bodily harm.

She was refused bail and is due to face Deniliquin Local Court today (Thursday 7 November 2019).

The officer sustained lacerations to her head and was taken to Barham Hospital for treatment.
