NSW police seek public assistance after steal from person in Sydney CBD

Police are appealing for public assistance to identify a man after property was stolen from a woman in Sydney’s CBD.

Shortly before 12pm on Monday 28 February 2022, a 47-year-old woman exited a taxi on Pitt Street, Sydney, and was approached by a man not known to her.

The man took the woman’s handbag from her, removing an amount of cash from her purse, before returning her bag and walking away. The woman was not injured.

The incident was reported to officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command who have commenced an investigation into the incident.

As part of inquiries, police have released an image of a man who may be able to assist.

The man is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, aged 40 to 50, with short dark hair.

He was wearing a t-shirt with Aboriginal art on the front, dark coloured shorts, a navy coloured cap, wearing a blue surgical face mask, and has a tattoo on his upper right arm.
