Three men have been released from custody as investigations continue into reports of shots fired and a vehicle fire at South Granville overnight.
About 10.30pm yesterday (Thursday 20 January 2022), police were called to Bennett Road at South Granville, following reports of shots fired.
Officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command attended and with assistance from the Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS) and PolAir, conducted an extensive search. No damage, projectiles, or injured persons were located.
While police were on scene, officers were alerted to a vehicle fire at Ostend Street, South Granville.
Police and Fire & Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze.
The BMW X5 – stolen from a property at Elanora Heights in June 2021 – was extensively damaged and will be forensically examined.
Three men – aged 20, 23 and 25 – were arrested at the scene and taken to Granville Police Station. All three were subsequently released pending further inquiries.
A short time later, police received further information relating to an earlier report of shots fired.
Investigators attended the intersection of Wells and Clyde Streets, South Granville, where a Toyota Hilux utility was located with damage to the front bulbar. The vehicle has since been towed for forensic examination.
Crime scenes were established at all three locations and secured overnight.
Investigators have since returned to the South Granville area today (Friday 21 January 2022) and conducted further extensive canvassing in the area, including a review of CCTV vision.
Initial inquiries suggest the reports may be linked.
As inquiries continue, police are urging anyone with information, or dashcam vision from the area, to come forward immediately.
