NSW SES advises of moderate peak passed at Wagga Wagga Tuesday morning

NSW SES

The NSW State Emergency Service is advising that the Murrumbidgee River at Wagga Wagga peaked at 8.74m during Tuesday morning.

Despite this, the observed river level is expected to sustain above 8.00m throughout Tuesday and the NSW SES is advising that water may recede slowly within the catchment.

An Evacuation Warning to all of North Wagga and an Evacuation order to selected low- lying streets persists.

The NSW SES will review these areas accordingly and when it is safe to do so, residents will be returned to their homes and a ‘Return With Caution’ will be issued.

Whilst waters will recede in the vicinity of Wagga, a moderate peak of 7.60m is expected through Friday in Narrandera with moderate flooding expected. Road closures and isolations may occur.

Further rainfall associated with a trough in the later week may see renewed river rises across the region.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

  • Keep up-to date with warnings via the NSW SES and BOM websites
  • Move livestock and machinery to higher ground
  • Prepare for possible isolation
  • Monitor LiveTrafficNSW
  • Never drive, walk or play in floodwater
  • Make proactive decisions
