NT Joint Organised Crime Taskforce – Drug Seizure

Detectives from the Northern Territory Joint Organised Crime Task Force (NT JOCTF) have successfully apprehended a 30-year-old man in Darwin, seizing a staggering 9 kilograms of methamphetamine destined for the illicit drug market in the Northern Territory.

Through meticulous investigative work, JOCTF Detectives were able to pinpoint the individual responsible for importing the illegal substance via the international cargo stream. Subsequent inquiries revealed the suspect receiving the drugs and, shortly thereafter, he was apprehended at his residence while in the process of extracting the illicit contents from the cargo package.

This operation marks a historic milestone as the largest recorded seizure of methamphetamine intended for distribution on the streets of Darwin. The prevention of this significant drug influx is crucial in safeguarding the community from potential harm.

Assistant Commissioner Travis Wurst emphasised the dedication of the multi-agency team, stating, “Organised Crime Networks profit from community misery. Our collaborative efforts are focused on utilising our collective capabilities to detect, disrupt, and dismantle those who choose to exploit and profit from illegal activities within our community.”

The seized 9 kilograms of methamphetamine carries an estimated street value of 9 million dollars, highlighting the substantial impact of this operation in safeguarding the well-being of the community.

The man has been remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court today.
