Number of vulnerable children in transition blows out

Tasmanian Labor
  • Children in need of a case worker jumps from 71 to 157
  • Case workers not allocated within priority timeframes
  • Government must ensure these kids are safe
  • Shocking data released today by the Liberal Government has shown the stark reality of child safety in Tasmania.

Shadow Minister for Child Safety Josh Willie said the Human Services Dashboard showed an unacceptable number of children waiting for a case worker, with a massive 86 additional children increase from 71 last quarter to 157 in the most recent data.

“This data is absolutely unacceptable and should be a wake-up call to Minister Roger Jaensch,” Mr Willie said.

“These children needed an investigation into their circumstances and under the Liberal Government they were not allocated a case worker within priority timeframes.

“Minister Jaensch continues to fail Tasmanian children.

“The minister needs to ensure that priority timeframes are being met.

“The Government must do everything it can to ensure children are safe.

“These are some of the most vulnerable members of our community and under Minister Jaensch’s watch concerns about their welfare are being ignored.”
