Officer injured after rock thrown at police vehicle in Toomelah

Police are appealing for public assistance after an officer was injured in the state’s Northern Tablelands yesterday.

About 12.10am on Sunday (26 April 2020), officers attached New England Police District were patrolling the streets at Toomelah, about 15km north west of Boggabilla, when a projectile was thrown at the vehicle.

Police will allege the projectile hit the driver’s side window, causing it to shatter, striking the officers arm.

The officer sustained minor injuries and attended Goondiwindi Hospital to receive treatment to her arm and eyes.

Officer in Charge at Moree Police Station, Inspector Martin Burke, said it is disappointing that this has occurred to one of our officers.

“We have been working closely with stakeholders and the community of Toomelah in recent weeks in response to COVID 19.”

“Violence towards police will not be tolerated in any circumstance, especially while we are trying to protect our community,” Insp Burke said.

Investigators are urging anyone who may have information, video or dashcam footage of the incidents to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Boggabilla Police Station on (07) 4671 9299.

Inquiries continue.
