Officer injured during arrest for sexual touching in Belmore

A police officer has been injured during the arrest of a man who was allegedly sexually touching a woman at Belmore last night.

About 10.45pm (Tuesday 11 February 2020), a 29-year-old woman was walking on York Street returning to her unit after parking her car, when she was punched to the ground by a naked man.

The man allegedly pinned her to the ground and sexually touched her.

The woman began screaming and was able to break free from him and run to her unit.

The man chased her and started banging on the door.

Police were contacted and arrived a short time later to find the naked man in the underground carpark.

Police approached the 27-year-old and, as they took hold of his arm, he allegedly struck one of the officers.

The constable was taken to St George Hospital and treated for a fractured tooth and concussion.

The man was subdued and taken to Canterbury Hospital for treatment before being released and taken to Campsie Police Station.

He was charged with sexual touching, common assault, cause grievous bodily harm to police officer on duty, and resist/hinder police in the execution of duty.

The man was refused bail and appeared in Burwood Local Court today (Wednesday 12 February 2020).

He was refused bail at court and will be remanded in custody until he re-appears in Burwood Local Court on Wednesday 8 April 2020.
