A report of burglary grew into the discovery of an alleged cannabis cultivation operation in Remuera this morning.
Just gone 3.50am, Police received information about glass breaking at an address on Bassett Road.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Burrow, Auckland City CIB, says officers dispatched to the suspicious activity were instead greeted by a suspicious smell.
“Staff approached the property and found the front door open.
“Upon entry, it is alleged the residential address was home to a large-scale cannabis grow operation.”
The presence of officers spooked the occupant, who fled out a back window of the house.
Eagle observed from above as the male ran through Newmarket Park, with a Police Dog Unit locating him nearby a short time later.
A 41-year-old man has been charged with cultivating cannabis and will appear in Auckland District Court today.
Further enquiries at the address located five rooms operating as well as equipment used in the cultivation of cannabis
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Burrow encourages anybody with information on drug-related offending to come forward.
“The community is vital in locating these operations, and we ask anyone who sees unusual activity or identifies aromas of cannabis, to please let us know.”
