Imagine a Peninsula, where our young people from the southern end do not have to travel to Mornington or even further to access youth services, but instead can find a full range of youth services in one dedicated hub?
Well that day is one step closer, with great progress being made on our youth services facility at Olympic Park, Rosebud.
We’re pleased to say our design concept plans have been approved and we’re keen to keep this project moving.
Earlier this year we announced we’d secured $4.3 million, one of the largest ever funding amounts from the State Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund. This will add to the $1.5 million commitment from the Federal Government to help build the new youth hub in Rosebud.
We surveyed 1000 young people aged 10 to 25 from the Southern Peninsula and they told us loud and clear Rosebud was the preferred location for the youth hub with 41 per cent saying it ‘felt safe’ to be at Olympic Park. Close proximity to public transport and other facilities and walking distance from nearby schools all helped support the location.
The new youth hub includes a full range of youth services and spaces including:
- drop in youth space
- mental health support
- information and referral
- personal development programs
- Indigenous support and programs
- LQBTQI+ support and programs
- youth leadership opportunities
- employment and education assistance
- youth support service
- recreation and art spaces
- meeting rooms and workspaces
- classrooms.
The project has sprung to life through the hard work of our staff, Councillors and our local contributors.
The two-year build will start late 2022 but as all good things come to those who wait, we will have an amazing resource for our young people by November 2024.
