One-year anniversary of NSW and Queensland floods

Department of Home Affairs

This time last year, our nation was in the midst of a major flood disaster, causing wide-spread destruction through large areas of Southern Queensland and across New South Wales.

Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those who died, and the thousands of people whose homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed.

Across both states, tens of thousands of homes were damaged, and communities were torn apart.

For many, this event is still very raw, with the anniversary bringing into sharp focus what people have been through and what they’re still going through.

We thank the thousands of emergency personnel, volunteers and Australian Defence Force personnel who responded, and worked through challenging conditions.

The road to recovery from such a significant disaster is long. The Albanese Government continues to stand with communities and respective state governments, as we continue to rebuild.
