OneRepublic to perform atNational Rugby League grand final

World-renowned OneRepublic will headline the pre-match entertainment at the NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final 2019.

The NRL today announced the multi award-winning act would perform as part of the pre-game spectacular.

The band will perform Counting Stars alongside some of their biggest hits at the decider, at ANZ Stadium on October 6.

The outfit boasts 28 million monthly listeners via Spotify, have 7.9 million YouTube subscribers as well as a broad social media reach.

Lead vocalist Ryan Tedder is also a prolific songwriter/producer, having worked with the likes of Adele, Beyonce, Camila Cabello, Ed Sheeran, Pink, U2, Taylor Swift, as well as fellow Aussies 5SOS, having co-written their latest two singles, ‘Easier’ and ‘Teeth.’

“OneRepublic will be a fantastic way to headline our entertainment,” NRL Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Abdo said.

“They are known for their live performances over many years and they’ll be well suited to this fantastic show.

“They have some worldwide hits and a unique sound which will complement our Grand Final show.

“The performance will be accompanied by a spectacular light and pyrotechnics show, in keeping with our ‘It’s Anyone’s Game’ theme.

“The Grand Final will be an event not to be missed for seasoned Rugby League fans and members or those attending their first live event.

“Our Grand Final is a spectacle which goes beyond Rugby League and OneRepublic will help us to showcase that.”

OneRepublic have had a number of massive songs in both Australia and the US, accumulating billions of views and streams in recent years.

“I’ve worked with enough Australians over the years and been down there enough and watched enough games – I’m enamoured by rugby league,” Tedder said. “The physicality of it is mind blowing.

“We’re honoured to be invited to the party and be a part of it. We love sports events – I didn’t get into writing songs necessarily for sports but for whatever reason our songs end up in so many sporting events and sports television.

“We can’t wait to be a part of it.”

The NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final will also feature the NRL Holden Women’s Premiership Grand Final as well as the Intrust Super State Championship Grand Final.
