Melbourne’s doors may currently be closed, but Open House Melbourne’s doors are open now more than ever before – in a virtual sense.
The annual initiative that encourages appreciation for architecture, design and history has taken its traditional weekend of open days online in 2020, with six weeks of virtual tours through some of the city’s most well-known buildings, including some of Hobsons Bay’s interesting spaces.
From now until 31 August there will be events and talks, including a Q&A with local Modscape founder Jan Gyrn on Saturday 25 July at 11am, as well as tours of some of the west’s best architecture, including: the Victorian era Williamstown Town Hall; Federation style The SUBSTATION gallery; and contemporary gems like Williamstown Library and the Australian Islamic Centre designed by Pritzker Architecture Prize–winning architect Glenn Murcutt and Islamic architect Hakan Elevli.
Open House Melbourne is an independent organisation that has been operating an annual program since 2008. It aims to foster public appreciation for architecture and public engagement in conversations about the future of our cities. Following our successful program last year, Council is again a proud collaborator in Open House Melbourne.
